Well Diamond Wire Saws Incorporated (Norcross, GA) announces the development of a high speed, endless wire saw. Based on the same diamond impregnated wire technology as their reciprocating machines, the new saw incorporates a proprietary welding process to create an endless loop of wire of any length and available in different diameters that travels in one direction only.

High Speed, Continuous Loop Diamond Wire Saw

Well Diamond Wire Saws Incorporated (Norcross, GA) announces the development of a high speed, endless wire saw. Based on the same diamond impregnated wire technology as their reciprocating machines, the new saw incorporates a proprietary welding process to create an endless loop of wire of 2.2 a 2.4 meters in length and available in different diameters that travels in one direction only.

The uni-directional travel and endless loop of the wire offers several advantages:

  1. Faster Cutting times - wire speed can be varied via rheostat from 0.5 – 20 meters per second compared with a maximum 2.5 meters per second with Well’s conventional saws. For example, initial wafered cuts on a 2" boule of optical crystaline material took just 1.5 minutes.
  2. Ease of use – when scrolling the material can be hand held rather than clamped or fixtured to a stage or sample holder making the flexibility the equivalent of a band saw. Also, changing of the wire "loop" takes only a few seconds.
  3. Lower operating costs – instead of winding 10, 20, or 40 meters (which costs between $150-$400) onto a drum, the continuous loop is projected to cost $75.00 - $100.00.

Markets for this high-speed cutting technology include virtually all materials in any production, research and development, or in-process quality control environment.

Well Diamond Wire Saws have developed a "step and repeat version" with automatic and adjustable feed, retraction and stepping capability. Interested parties are invited to contact the Business Development Department on 770-582-9357 or by e-mail at wellsaws.dw@welldws.com.

Five standard versions of Saws are manufactured.  Often the size of the part dictates the best model to employ.

For smaller parts up to 50 x 50 mm (2 x 2 inches approx.), the Series 3000 (four versions available) are recommended. Standard Accessories For Diamond Wire Saw Well Series 3000

The Model 4240 is recommended when part sizes are as large as 115 x 115 mm (4.5 x 4.5 inches approx.).

For harder materials of the same dimensions as the 3000 Series, the Model 5237 is recommended.

The Model 6234 is capable of cutting parts with sizes up to 230 mm deep and 230  mm high (9 x 9 inches approx.).  Length of the part is unlimited as long as the part can be supported.

The Model 7243 can accommodate parts as large as 470 mm high x 470 mm deep (18.5 x 18.5 inches approx.).  Length of the part is unlimited as long as the part can be supported.
